KEY FACTS

● This Bricklin SV-1 is a particularly rare and distinctively styled modern classic sports coupe, which is believed to be the only example currently registered in the UK.

● Under the bonnet sits a naturally aspirated 351-cubic inch (5.8-litre) Ford Windsor V8, which sends its power to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission.

● This example was originally a US-delivered model, which has since been imported into the UK, where it has been with its only UK owner since 2018, and was first registered with the DVLA in January 2019.

● This SV-1 is understood to be one of just 2,897 examples produced, and is believed to be the only example of the model currently registered in the UK.

● The odometer indicates 34,960 miles, though this is not warranted.

EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

● The Bricklin SV-1 (Safety Vehicle One) was the brainchild of American businessman Malcolm Bricklin. A safety orientated two-sea sports car, it features 10mph impact-absorbing bumpers, a passenger safety cell and roll cage, electrically operated gullwing doors, composite bodywork consisting of an acrylic resin bonded to a fibreglass substrate, with the acrylic impregnated with the car’s body colour, and front disc brakes.

● This example is finished in the timeless shade of Safety White with contrasting black lower body panels, over a two-tone tan vinyl and brown cloth-trimmed interior, featuring buttoned seat inserts.

● It rides on a set of 15-inch multi-spoke ‘Turbine’ alloy wheels shod in BFGoodrich Radial T/A tyres.

● Equipment includes pop-up headlights, a three-spoke steering wheel, air conditioning, and a cassette stereo.

● The car comes with an original owner’s manual, a service manual, copies of various UK car magazines with features on the car, a copy of Bricklin ‘Gold Portfolio’, a history print-out, a set of blue and yellow California licence plates, and a second-place trophy from the B.I.G. West VIII show in Sonoma Valley, California in 1989.

CONDITION

● Please refer to the photo gallery to assess the exterior and interior condition.

● Specific notes from the seller include: as the bodywork is acrylic over fibreglass there are some minor cracks on some of the corners and on the roof by the doors, and some of the plastic interior finishers are slightly discoloured.

● The seller notes that the gullwing doors work on air pressure and over a few days the pressure drops due to the engine providing the air pressure through a pump drive, which results in the heavy doors having to be opened manually.

● The car’s last MOT test was conducted on 16 January 2019 at an indicated 34,644 miles, which resulted in a first-time pass with no advisories.

SERVICE HISTORY

● This SV-1’s most recent maintenance was carried out in 2019 at around an indicated 34,700 miles, which consisted of the power steering hose being replaced.
