Brands like Apple, Coca-Cola, Nike, Google are brands recognizable the world over. So is Ferrari, The Cavallino Rampante or ‘prancing horse’ was the symbol chosen by Ferrari and it is recognized by just about every man, woman and child on the planet!

Ferrari’s brand-new Testarossa, the star of the 1984 Paris Motor Show, shocked the world at its premiere.

Designed by the creative genius Leonardo Fioravanti, the Testarossa quickly became a performance car icon and remains one of the most celebrated and recognizable Ferraris ever built.

Mr Leonardo Fioravanti is perhaps the most renowned man in Ferrari design. “I am responsible for nine classic Ferraris including the F40, the 365 Daytona, the 288 GTO and project managed about 18 other Ferrari’s” he told.

Produced between 1984 and 1991, some 7,177 Testarossa’s were built in total.

Around 1,000 early examples feature the rare ‘Monospecchio’ single door mirror.

The single mirror came about because legislation in Italy at the time stipulated that rearward vision should not be obstructed by bodywork parts of the car.

This legislation was lowered in 1987 and Ferrari moved the mirror to a more conventional low position in 1988 and at the same time changed the centre-lock wheels to a conventional five-nut arrangement.

Due to these changes, the very first series called Monospecchio and Monodado are the most rare and most desirable of the Testarossa’s built.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

The known history of this Ferrari Testarossa starts on the 24th. of December 1992 in Venice where the car was first registered.

From its Chassis Number it is understandable that the car was completed at the Maranello Ferrari at the end of 1985 or beginning of 1986.

We are currently applying this Testarossa to be Ferrari Classiche certification.

The Ferrari stayed in Italy till November 2018,  at which point it was exported to the Netherlands and arrived in a large Ferrari collection.

This wonderful Testarossa was owned by a Ferrari collector, an half Italian gentlemen that grow in the Netherlands who we met some years ago and became a friend.

We have stayed always in contact and after many years we were happy and proud to be the new owner of its Testarossa.

We know the gentleman as extremely punctual and therefore he brought the car to 1 of the main Ferrari specialists in the Netherlands which is Forza Service. He gave the Testarossa a complete service with an open check book which resulted in invoices totaling € 44,000 in 2023.

The car presents in highly original condition throughout with all the correct trim details and finishes present, with the odometer showing only 9.000 km.

This Ferrari Testarossa is an excellent original car that has been very well preserved and maintained.

This specific Testarossa holds the titles ‘Monospecchio’ and ‘Monodado’. This is also what makes the car very special.

Monospecchio, translated to ‘single mirror’ is characteristic of Testarossas from the early years.

Early models were mainly equipped with this single high mirror, but it was abolished in 1987 due to the lack of vision from the mirror.

The single mirror came about because legislation in Italy at the time stipulated that rearward vision should not be obstructed by bodywork parts of the car. Because of the high rear mudguard, the mirror had to be placed very high. The reason for choosing only one mirror is that it would be impossible to see into the other mirror from a normal driving position.

Like the mirror, this legislation was lowered in 1987. The legislation changed to a requirement of not 100% vision, but that only 80% vision was required.

As soon as Ferrari heard this, they abolished the single mirror, and then applied the 2 lower mirrors. This resulted with that the Monospecchio specimens are much rarer than the regular double mirror ones.

As a pre-1988 specimen, this car also has the attractive and rare Monodado single-bolt 16-inch wheels, as opposed to the five-bolt wheels on later cars.

These features make this Testarossa a very rare and sought-after specimen!

The Ferrari is currently registered in the Netherlands and we can assist with the registration procedure in other countries.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The beautiful Red paintwork is deep and glossy, showing no evidence of repairs or damage.

The spoiler, rockers, tail panel louvers and bumpers are in excellent order as well.

From top to bottom, this appears to be an extremely honest and original car that has been very well preserved and maintained from day one. Due to the extremely low amount of kilometers the car shows very fresh.

The lights, front and hidden at the rear all remain in excellent condition as do the rubber seals and plastics that adorn the stylish and unmistakable body.

The wheels are in excellent condition without any signs of use.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The Crema leather is a classic combination with the red exterior.

It has weathered over the last 25 years well, remaining clean and tidy while still exuding an original patina that can get lost in fully restored cars.

All of the seats, door cards and rear section present very well.

A nice detail is the prancing horse logo that is embroidered into each headrest.

The front trunk compartment is also in excellent condition with original black carpeting and factory correct materials in place. The original spare tire is in place.

As far as luggage space was concerned, the Testarossa has a big compartment under the front hood and the storage space behind the seats is also significantly large.

The radio hides behind a pop-up panel in the center of the dash and plays through large speakers that are mounted on the wide wheel wells up front.

As specialists will known it’s very rare to still have the original radio but this example shows it.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The V12 fires into life with the very first turn of the key and produces a very pleasing exhaust note.

We were happy to drive the car back from the former owner to our showroom. A trip which can be easily described as FANTASTIC.

What a car is the Testarossa to drive. The sound, the seat position, the power is just fabulous.

The handling of the car is fabulous. Steering and braking is extremely accurate as you might expect of a Ferrari.

Yes it’s a big party to see and drive this Ferrari.

The Testarossa is nearly as comfortable and spacious as a grand tourer. Not to mention it offered more luxury and convenience than any other Ferrari until then.

The Testarossa is no doubt one of the most recognizable cars ever produced by Ferrari.

This early example is sure to be sought-after by enthusiasts as one of only around 1,000 cars to feature the rare ‘Monospecchio’ single door mirror.

This wonderful Testarossa is sure to provide its new owner with sound investment return and, above all, great enjoyment, whether on display in one’s collection or behind the wheel.

This Testarossa is one of the nicest we have seen over the years.
