In 1984, Ferrari created an absolute sensation with the Testarossa at the Paris Motor Show. With immense interest surrounding the Ferrari stand, the public eagerly gazed at Ferrari's latest model. We believe that Lamborghini set the supercar trend in the 1960s with the Miura. However, many would agree that in the 1980s, besides some legendary Lamborghinis, Ferrari almost redefined the supercar with the Testarossa. It was no surprise that the model was a success for the Italian brand.
The Testarossa had three main versions, with the last one appearing in 1991. The very first Testarossas featured only one exterior mirror, earning the nickname 'Monospecchio'. But let's go back to 1991. Ferrari changed the name to the 512 TR, hinting at the fantastic 5-litre twelve-cylinder engine. In four years of production, only 2,261 units of the 512 TR were built. This third series presented itself as a superb evolution of the Testarossa, offering improved performance, better handling, and a more modern package that was perfectly in tune with the times.
Ferrari's engineers worked hard to increase the engine power for this third version. They achieved this by raising the compression ratio, installing larger valves, and making numerous other modifications, including altered camshafts. All in all, the 512 TR in European specification delivered an impressive 428 horsepower.
A one-piece rear subframe allowed the engine to be mounted lower in the chassis. This significantly improved weight distribution, while the revised suspension contributed to better handling. Ferrari also altered the bodywork of the 512 TR. The Testarossa had angular edges here and there, which disappeared in the third version. We also see hints of the Ferrari 348. Overall, the 512 TR presents itself as a modern Ferrari from the 90s, with clear features of the iconic Testarossa from the 80s. The best of both worlds? The choice is yours.
The 512 TR at Gallery Aaldering was delivered on April 19, 1993, by the well-known Ferrari dealer Crepaldi Auto Milan in the classic colour combination of Rosso Corsa with a black leather interior. This makes it a European-delivered car. This is a fully documented example. It is important to mention that all the original Ferrari booklets are present, including the original leather case, and that recent extensive maintenance was carried out by a Dutch Ferrari specialist, including the replacement of the timing belt, fuel pump, and a service. Several photos of this maintenance are available.
With only 58,000 kilometers, this Ferrari has not seen much action, and the maintenance has always been done by official Ferrari dealers. The first owner had the first service at 9,000 km performed by Ferrari Ch. Pozzi in Paris. In addition to the official and stamped service booklet, there are also several invoices for work carried out over the years.
In total, this Ferrari had only three owners. The first owner kept the 512 TR until 2005, and the third owner acquired this beautiful Ferrari in 2015. For the last ten years, this Ferrari has been in a private collection, where it has been excellently cared for.
The paint on this Ferrari is in stunning condition and very original. With virtually flawless windows, a very clean body, and beautiful paint, the overall appearance is fantastic. The alloy wheels are also in great condition and equipped with tires of the correct size, further enhancing the authentic look of this example. The underside of the Ferrari is also in impeccable condition.
The interior offers a delightful combination of influences from the 80s and 90s. The black leather upholstery is nearly flawless given its age and is in very good condition. Every detail, from the upholstery to the instrumentation, center console, and beautiful steering wheel, is in excellent condition and makes a stunning impression. The sleek design of the dashboard and the typical orange-red gauges immediately transport you to another era. The characteristic black ‘gear knob’ and the long steel gear stick, which disappears into the typical Ferrari shift pattern, complete the driving experience. This 512 TR shows almost no wear that you would normally expect after more than 30 years.
With only 1 of the 2261 built examples, it is truly a rarity. We would love to see more of them in this condition.
