The R129-generation Mercedes-Benz SL debuted in 1989, succeeding the long-running R107 series. The SL500 variant was powered by a 5.0-liter M119 V8 engine, producing around 320 horsepower. Compared to its predecessor, the R129 featured improved aerodynamics and a more contemporary design while maintaining the SL’s signature long-hood, short-deck proportions. Over the years, the R129 has gained a following for its timeless styling, solid engineering, and ease of use compared to earlier SL models.
