The seller offers for sale a 1978 Peugeot 504 Coupé, equipped with a 1.97-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine and manual transmission. With 153,000 km on the odometer (verified), this example features a desirable combination of original condition and expert maintenance.
This 504 Coupé features the elegant lines of the Pininfarina design, and offers an appealing mix of comfort, French GT character, and durable engineering. The vehicle includes power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, electric windows, and front quarter windows. The paint and bodywork were refinished in 2007 by a professional body shop; a detailed invoice is available.
Mechanically, the car is in a good condition and comes with a maintainance log over the last 12 years.
The body presents in good condition.
The interior is in largely original condition, with the brown leatherette trim showing light wear appropriate for age. The driver’s seat was re-padded in 2016 under the original upholstery.
The 504 Coupé debuted in 1969 as an upmarket derivative of Peugeot’s 504 saloon, sharing its mechanical underpinnings while offering more refined styling by Pininfarina. It was aimed at the growing European GT market and competed with the likes of the BMW E9 and Fiat 124 Coupé. The 504 Coupé featured an independent suspension setup, rear-wheel drive, and a comfortable interior that made it suitable for long-distance touring. The combination of Italian styling and French reliability has given the 504 Coupé a cult following. While V6 variants command higher premiums, the 2.0-litre four-cylinder models like this one are more balanced in character and offer lower running costs. These cars are rare today.
This car was featured in a ClassicCar photo book and comes with a CD of original parts catalogues, along with tools such as a manual window crank and external hood release for emergencies.
