This stunning recreation of a Tipo 61 2.9 Maserati Birdcage was bespoke-built for the late Rodney Smith, a renowned collector of competition cars, by the highly respected firm of Crosthwaite & Gardiner. With access to an original Birdcage the company was able to authentically replicate this superb example with meticulous attention to detail, recreating the highly complex and beautifully constructed triangulated, lightweight space frame chassis which gave it the ‘Birdcage' its nickname in period.
Since completion it has been a regular participant in historic racing and is maintained in top race-ready condition by a leading marque specialist. As such this fine example is eligible for historic events at the highest level like Goodwood Revival ; Classic Le Mans, VSCC Sports Car Series and Motor Racing Legends' Stirling Moss Trophy.
