Its factory devastated by wartime bombing, Alfa Romeo did not resume car production until 1947, the pre-war 2500C serving the Milan marque in good stead until 1952.

The firm’s first all-new offering of the post-war period arrived in 1950.

Designed by Dr. Orazio Satta Puliga and intended for volume production, the 1900 was the first Alfa to employ unitary construction and – in keeping with the company’s sporting heritage – was powered by a twin-overhead-camshaft engine.

Launched in 1951, the short-wheelbase 1900C Sprint featured bodywork by Pinin Farina (cabriolet) and Touring (coupé), both models utilizing the 100bhp engine of the 1900TI saloon.

In June 1954 the engine was enlarged to 1,975cc and the model re-designated as the ‘Super Sprint’.

From 1956 a new 3-window body was offered. Using their patented Superleggera construction technique, Touring introduced a new version of their prior 1900 coachwork for the Super Sprint, accommodating the shorter chassis with one window per side rather than the outgoing coupe’s two-window configuration.

The new Touring design was known as the Tipo 4, or three-window coupe and it eliminated the prior car’s rear-fender bulges in favor of straight, streamlined haunches.

Fewer than 600 examples of the three-window coupe were built through 1958.

It was the foundation from which Pininfarina penned their famous Giulietta Spider design, essentially the forefather of the beloved Alfa that remained in production until the early 1990s.

The 1900 in all its guises shone in competitions of all kinds, such as the Mille Miglia and Targa Florio, and remains one of the most successful cars produced by the Italian manufacturer.

ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE

According to the historic records of Alfa Romeo, the assembly of chassis number 1005* was completed on June 14th. 1956.

The engine number shown on the historical records of Alfa are still visible on the engine showing that the engine still is the matching numbers engine.

The car was built for the Swiss market and delivered to it’s first client in Lugano, Switzerland.

The car has been for an extremely long time in the ownership of 1 family. It was bought in 1961 and passed to the gentlemen son in 2012. This gentlemen sold the car in 2023.

Due to the fact that the gentlemen passed away the car was recently offered and became part of a collection in Holland. Because of a sale of a very special Ferrari we took this Alfa as a part exchange.

A relative recent restoration has been carried out in Switzerland and pictures of the frame-off rebuild are on file.

CONDITION EXTERIOR

The Alfa has been impressively restored. Pictures in the file show how intensively the body of the car was professionally restored resulting in a very nice body with nice gaps.

The chrome on the Alfa in excellent condition and fits very well to the alloy body.

The front grilles are in excellent condition, mounted with protective black gaskets against the body surface.

Due to the nice panel fit the doors, boot and bonnet open and close very gently.

The Alfa is sitting on period correct and very expensive Borrani wheels.

CONDITION INTERIOR

The interior is even as the exterior fully restored. The interior is restored with period correct materials.
All meters, switches and gauges have been restored.
The complete interior is in a beautiful condition. The seats are comfortable and it is clearly visible that the interior is designed by Italians as it is beautifully accented by polished aluminium.

Overall the condition of the interior shows the same excellent attention to detail as the exterior.

ENGINE BAY/ BOOT

The engine compartment is as you can expect from a beautiful restored car in a very nice condition. The engine bay is restored to factory specification with the black castings which is combined with aluminium details.
All parts show the high level of restoration and if the exterior, interior and engine bay does not show the level of the restoration, the boot will show it as even the boot is in a beautiful condition.

DRIVING EXPERIENCE

The car is in the condition of a just restored car- but the driving is as perfect as from a just prepared holiday/rally car. The Alfa handles very easy and drives very comfortable.

This specific example is a car which gives immediately an invitation to be driven.
It’s a relative simple car to drive. Easy to handle but seriously sportive to drive.

Ensure successful competition of events both in terms of driving and looking good while doing it!

For some years now, we drive the Mille Miglia in a 1928 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750. We already knew from the books that Alfa had always been synonymous with state of art technology and we were completely convinced after our 2020 and 2021 Mille Miglia experience.

These very beautiful Alfa’s have recently been discovered in a major way by knowledgeable and sophisticated collectors.

The combination of sure, fast, agile performance, a small quantity artisan build, and timeless beauty and that is eligible for various driving events including the Mille Miglia have made the Alfa 1900 CSS a very sought-after car and this is a very rare and highly desirable example.
