Although the Porsche 924 is known as a 'cheap' Porsche, the limited Carrera GT cost a whopping 108,800 guilders new in 1981. Only the 930 Turbo cost more. This example - no. 331 of only 406 built - was delivered on 2 April 1981 by 'Gottfried Schultz Sportwagen GmbH & Co' in Essen, Germany. The original purchase invoice is still present! The car was serviced at the same dealer until 1988 and was then imported to the Netherlands. The first Dutch owner sold the Porsche only in 2017 to its latest owner: a true Porsche enthusiast with a collection of special and rare Porsche's. With its bright red colour 'Indian Rot/Guards Red' (recently fully professionally polished), forged black Fuchs rims, Carrera GT decals and flared wheel arches, it is a striking and tough appearance. The Porsche stickers under the doors are original and very rare. Distinctive options include a digital radio, electrically adjustable door mirrors and a rear window wiper. A service was carried out in 2021 at a mileage of 129,577 km where the timing belt was replaced. The following original documentation is present with the car: a German sales brochure of the 924 Carrera GT from 1980, the delivery invoice, the service and maintenance booklet, the workshop manual and the Dutch import papers from 1988.
The condition is very nice with a damage-free history, no rust and good rubbers. The mileage is relatively low. A good example is becoming increasingly scarce and is popular among collectors, prices are therefore rising, making the car interesting for investors too.
General information about the 924 Carrera GT
In the 1970s, Porsche had less and less confidence in the 'old-fashioned' 911 and other models had to take over its success. In 1976, therefore, the affordable 924 was introduced as the successor to the 914, which was partnered with Audi. The model provided a needed sales boost at the time. Without this model, Porsche would probably not exist today To give the 924 with Audi engine a sportier image, the Turbo version was introduced and Porsche stepped into the GT3 with a racing version. This did require more than 400 examples to be built, and so the Carrera GT was born. This model has a stripped-down and lighter body, and finely tuned suspension, and an uprated and improved engine: the turbocharged 2-litre engine produces 210 hp, achieving a top speed of 240 km/h and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds. This makes the lightweight (1,143 kg) 924 even faster than the atmospheric 911 SC of the time! It only came in silver, black and red, with red being the most sought-after colour.
