With the Z series, Datsun brought an iconic car to the market. A fast and agile car with a delicious 6-cylinder engine, but also a comfortable GT. Not surprisingly, the one we offer has been improved and made suitable for rallying and/or long drives. This car is a real mile-eater. It has been fitted with a Terratrip Classic 202 Plus V4, bucket seats, roll cage, Hella spotlights and a Pioneer audio system. The sporty alloy ‘John Brown Wheels’ 15-inch rims are fitted with winter tyres, making the car suitable for the Winter Trail Rally, for example. The car also comes with the original rims and seats, so it can also be restored to its original condition. There are 5 original 14-inch rims with tyres present, 4 of which are in top condition. The original seats are also in good condition. What makes this car rather special is that it was originally delivered to the Netherlands in 1978. In its early days, the car has been owned by the same owner for no less than 32 years! And it shows: the Datsun is both optically and technically in very good condition. The chassis is rust-free and the car was recently fully restored. As a result, the original colour ‘Silver Metallic’ is also in very good condition. Driving the car is a joy: the original 5-speed manual gearbox is fully synchronised and 5th gear is an overdrive. Combined with the raw, tough engine sound, the car not only sounds sporty: performance is impressive by 70s standards. 100 km/h is reached in about 10.4 seconds and the top speed is about 200 km/h. The original registration certificate issued on 27 June 1978 is still present. The car was delivered new by ‘Auto Jansma BV’ in Heerenveen: official Mercedes-Benz and Datsun Dealer. An old advertisement from this dealer is still present. Original stickers can still be seen under the bonnet. The last owner is also still from the north of the Netherlands.
General information about the Datsun 260Z
In 1969, the Datsun 240Z (also known as ‘Fairlady’) was introduced. With specifications such as a 6-cylinder engine with overhead camshafts and 4-wheel independent suspension, the car had similarities to much more expensive sports cars such as the Jaguar E-Type and BMW 2800 CS, but at the price of cars such as Alfa Romeo Spider, MG B and Opel GT (which were all equipped with a 4-cylinder engine. The Z-series was therefore a great success worldwide. In 1974, the 240Z was succeeded by the more powerful 260Z, which had 162 hp instead of 150 hp thanks to an enlarged displacement. In 1978, the last Z-series rolled off the production line. The car is still considered a good driving GT with sporty and beautiful looks, as well as good handling. Consequently, the model has become increasingly popular.
